I really ought to join you. I've seen a slow but steady increase in flab for several years now, and it's been exacerbated by my work stress level having recently shot through the roof. I used to at least be able to get a few miles of walking in at the office every day, but that completely evaporated many months back. I have no doubt you'll succeed brilliantly at this endeavor - not so sure about myself...

Congrat's on the new job! I think it's just not possible to fully anticipate how we'll react to a difficult new challenge until we actually face it. The best we can hope for is to find the wisdom to figure things out on the fly, and it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job at that task. It has been a very stressful time in your life - that daunting combination of events guaranteed it. The fact that the three of you have made it through without any irreparable damage is an indicator that your future as a unit looks extremely bright. Happy for you, and looking forward to more frequent updates!

You get mucho kudos from me! Taking care of a baby and a home is plenty difficult as far as I'm concerned. There are a lot of maintenance activities that tend to not get done when both people work - staying at home just means you get to do all that hard work that wasn't getting done before. Of course it's tough for most folks to try to live off one income, but then when you do go back to work there's daycare to pay for and all sorts of other logistical challenges. No easy path to be found.

I'm afraid neither the Democrats or Republicans are willing to address the fact that unless we find a way to make truly massive reductions in our healthcare spending, the country will end up going bankrupt as one wave after another of baby boomers retire. The GOP just wants to tinker around the edges while protecting entrenched interests, the Dems want to spend any savings on covering more people. None of them seem to care that unless we start making huge cutbacks now, the whole system will fall under its own weight in the next 10 - 20 years because we already spend a vastly higher percentage of our GDP on healthcare versus any other developed country. Add in the fact that we will have a small number of young people trying to pay for the healthcare of massive numbers of boomer seniors and the picture gets truly scary. By putting off difficult decisions for as long as possible, we're guaranteeing disaster once the process is fully in motion.

Glad things are going well overall - keep us up to date whenever you can find the time and energy.

P.S. Just got back from SXSW last night. Yep, it was awesome. :-)

Makes perfect sense to me, Rya. So many people go through life ruled by fear - fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of death, fear of whatever it is that scares them. We all have a tendency to forget that no matter how perfectly we live our lives, there's no combination of brilliant choices that's going to get us out of here alive.

That absolutely does not absolve us from striving hard to do our very best. It's just that if someone manages to be shocked and appalled by the fact that I'm human, I see it as being their problem and not mine.

Glad to know things are good with you and your fellas. :)

Sorry it's been awhile since I stopped by, and very sorry you didn't have any more time with your mom. You've been through some monumental changes - glad to see you're starting to get some of the old spunk back.

I got hooked into the Twitter thing sometime back - I'll happily be your stalker.

I know it sucks having to worry about finding a new job when you have so many other stresses, but you're probably better off not giving any more of yourself to folks who will cut you off at the knees at the first opportunity. And you did get to spend this critical time at home that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

The way to approach any job search is to just do your best possible job of preparation and presentation, and then not sweat the results. You have no control over the decision-making process at a prospective employer - nepotism, indifference, stupidity - there are all sorts of bogus reasons you might not get a particular job. All you need to do is be so professional that they won't have any VALID reasons. You have a dynamic, creative personality and you're a hard worker - sooner or later, you WILL find someone who's smart enough to hire you. :)
